Pneumatic grippers are used to hold, reposition, orient, and move materials in automated manufacturing and assembly systems. Grippers are found in a wide range of industries including automotive, food and beverage, medical and pharmaceutical, packaging, and many more. Pneumatic grippers come in many sizes, styles, and functions, each designed to handle different types of parts as they range in shape, size, and material.
Angular Gripper vs Parallel Gripper
Pneumatic grippers can be separated into two distinct styles - angular grippers and parallel grippers. This distinction comes from how the gripper jaws operate. The jaws on an angular gripper open and close in an arcing motion around a central point, whereas parallel gripper jaws move in straight lines parallel to the gripper. The amount of physical space the gripper and its fingers have to operate in as well as the size, shape, and material of the object being handled are important considerations when choosing between a parallel gripper or angular gripper.
Angular grippers and parallel grippers both come in 2-jaw and 3-jaw varieties.
